His research focuses on hereditary kidney cancer syndromes, cancer genetics, tumor metabolism, and surgical outcomes. He has led and contributed to numerous clinical and translational studies, with over 150 peer-reviewed publications. Dr. Ball&rsquo;s laboratory investigates the genetic and metabolic underpinnings of renal tumor development, with particular emphasis on multifocal and hereditary cancers. He was the former Chief of Urology of the Montreal Children\u2019s Hospital, Toronto SickKids Hospital in Canada, and Sidra Medicine in Doha, Qatar.<\/p>\n<p>He is a pediatric urologist with a special interest in genitourinary reconstruction. He is an innovative surgeon who developed new techniques for the correction of refractory urinary incontinence, disorders of sex development, hypospadias, exstrophy\/epispadias complex, and UPJ obstruction.<\/p>\n<p>He has published 193 papers and 55 book chapters. He was a visiting professor in 41 countries and associated editor of the textbook <em>Clinical Pediatric Urology<\/em>, one of the most prestigious in the specialty, as well as co-editor of the book <em>Bladder Exstrophy<\/em>. He is an accomplished teacher, having received several teaching awards at the University of Toronto and McGill University. He was the inaugural Women\u2019s Auxiliary Chair of Urology at SickKids Hospital in Toronto and is proud of having trained many of the world-leading pediatric urologists.<\/p>\n<p>In 2019, Dr. Pippi Salle received the Life Achievement Award from the World Federation of Pediatric Surgeons (WOFAPS) in recognition of his academic contributions to pediatric urology worldwide. Since February 2005, she has been a member of the Department of Urology at Hospital Cl\u00ednic of Barcelona, where she was appointed Head of the Multidisciplinary Uro-Oncology Unit in December 2011. This unit integrates urology, medical oncology, radiotherapy, and other specialties to deliver comprehensive care for patients with urologic cancers.<\/p>\n<p>She has also held an academic position as Associate Professor of Surgery at the University of Barcelona since 2005. From April 2018 to November 2022, she served as President of the Catalan Society of Urology.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Ribal obtained her medical degree in 1994 and her PhD in 2002, both from the University of Barcelona. She completed her residency in urology at Hospital Cl\u00ednic of Barcelona in 1999 and went on to conduct a research fellowship supported by an investigation grant at the same institution (2000\u20132001). In 2002, she served as a Visiting Clinician at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, U.S., and later completed a laparoscopic surgery fellowship at University College London Hospital (UCLH) in 2006.<\/p>\n<p>Her main areas of interest include urologic oncology, major oncologic and laparoscopic surgery, kidney transplantation, and genetic research in urologic tumors. She is the author of over 200 scientific publications and has delivered more than 350 invited lectures at national and international conferences and educational events.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Ribal has been actively involved in the European Association of Urology (EAU), serving as a member of the Muscle-Invasive and Metastatic Bladder Cancer Guidelines Panel from 2006 to 2020, and as a Board Member of the EAU Section of Urological Research (EUSP) from 2012 to 2020. She chaired the Dissemination Committee of the EAU Guidelines between 2016 and 2021, has been a member of the EAU Guidelines Office Board since 2016, and served as Vice-Chair from 2019.<\/p>\n<p>In July 2021, she became Chair of the EAU Guidelines Office, marking the first time a woman has held this position on the EAU Board.<\/p>\n<p>In recognition of her achievements and potential, Dr. Ribal received the EAU\u2019s Crystal Matula Award in 2009, the most prestigious distinction awarded to a young European He went on to do a research fellowship at the Cancer Prognostics and Health Outcomes Unit at the University of Montreal.
